Once upon a time, a carpenter and his wife lived happily in the woods. They weren’t rich, but had enough to live in comfort and enjoyed each other’s company. Elena, the carpenter’s wife, suffered from sleepwalking. Some nights, she stumbled through the house, run into a piece of furniture and woke up. She would then return to bed and fall asleep again, and not remember a thing the next morning.

One night though, Elena didn’t stumble into anything, and continued her sleepwalk outdoors. Far into the woods she wandered, and when she opened her eyes, she had no idea where she was. The story goes that she searched her house for weeks, slowly going insane, and threw herself off a cliff in despair. Other versions of the story suggest that Elena’s madness was caused by Elena seeing her husband making love to another woman in the woods. All we know, is that Elena has been haunting these woods ever since.
